Sliding Wardrobe Dubai: Custom vs Ready-Made, Prices, and What to Specify

Sliding wardrobes dominate Dubai's apartment market for one practical reason: they save floor space. A hinged door on a 600mm-deep wardrobe needs 600mm of clear swing space in front of it. A sliding door needs zero. In a Dubai apartment master bedroom of 12 to 16 square meters, that difference determines whether the bed can be positioned comfortably or sits 600mm further from the wall than it should.

This guide covers every category of sliding wardrobe in Dubai, from AED 909 ready-made units from furniture retailers to AED 28,000 custom built-in floor-to-ceiling installations, and what the real differences are between each tier.

**Sliding wardrobe categories in Dubai**

Ready-made sliding wardrobes (AED 909 to AED 5,000): the market includes Home Centre's 2-door sliding units at AED 1,259 to AED 2,299, Classic Furniture's 3-door custom-made units at AED 2,990 to AED 4,900, and Danube Home's 2-door mirror options at AED 1,299 to AED 1,500. These are freestanding or semi-assembled units with standard fixed dimensions. The appeal is delivery within days and assembly within hours. The limitation is fit: standard dimensions almost never match your wall width exactly, leaving visible gaps at one or both sides that collect dust and look unfinished. Heights are typically 200cm, which in Dubai apartments with 260cm to 320cm ceilings leaves a dead zone above the wardrobe that serves no purpose.

Custom built-in sliding wardrobes (AED 6,000 to AED 28,000): manufactured to the exact dimensions of your wall, from floor to ceiling, wall to wall. No gaps. The full ceiling height is used for storage. In an apartment bedroom with a 280cm ceiling and a 3.4-meter wall, a custom built-in sliding wardrobe uses 30 to 40% more storage volume than a ready-made alternative placed against the same wall.

**What to specify for a Dubai sliding wardrobe**

Sliding wardrobe quality in Dubai depends on four specifications: track system, panel material, door panel material, and internal configuration.

Track system. Two types are used: a floor-track system where a lower rail guides the door, and a top-hung system where the door hangs from a ceiling-mounted rail with a lower guide only. Top-hung systems are preferred for Dubai apartment installations because they keep the floor clear, which makes cleaning easier and eliminates the build-up of dust and debris in a floor channel. Hettich's EKU system and Häfele's sliding track systems are the benchmark specifications for quality built-in sliding wardrobes in Dubai. Generic track systems fail at the rollers within 2 to 4 years of daily use.

Carcass material. Moisture-resistant MDF is the correct specification for any built-in wardrobe in Dubai, whether the doors slide or swing. Standard furniture-grade MDF absorbs ambient humidity, swells at panel joints, and warps door frames within 2 to 3 years in Dubai's summer months. A sliding wardrobe with a warped carcass cannot be adjusted the way a hinged wardrobe can. The doors will continue to bind. Moisture-resistant MDF, specified to EN 622-5 MDF.H standard, maintains dimensional stability at up to 85% relative humidity.

Door panel options. Three door panel types are used in Dubai sliding wardrobes: melamine-laminated MDF panels, lacquer-painted MDF panels, and glass or mirror panels. Melamine is the most durable surface in humid conditions and the lowest cost. Lacquer provides a smooth painted finish with depth that melamine cannot replicate, at a 30 to 50% cost premium on door panels. Mirror panels serve a dual function: they eliminate the need for a separate wall mirror in compact bedrooms and make the room appear larger. Full-wall mirror sliding doors are the most requested specification in Dubai Marina, JVC, and Business Bay apartment bedrooms. Glass panel doors (frosted, clear, or tinted) allow the interior to be seen without fully opening the door.

Internal configuration. A custom sliding wardrobe can be specified with any internal layout: double-hanging sections, single-hang with drawers below, shelving banks, or shoe sections. Ready-made units offer fixed internal layouts that rarely match actual wardrobe requirements. The ability to specify the internal layout is one of the strongest arguments for custom over ready-made in Dubai's apartment market, where households often have specific storage requirements: dedicated abaya hanging, shoe collections of 40 to 80 pairs, or a requirement for more drawers than a standard layout provides.

**Sliding wardrobe door types compared**

Two-door sliding: the most common format for wardrobes up to 2.4 meters wide. Each door covers half the wardrobe opening when closed. The limitation: with two doors, you can only access one half of the wardrobe at a time. For a wardrobe used by two people, this creates a practical bottleneck if both doors are used simultaneously.

Three-door sliding: for wardrobes 2.4 to 3.6 meters wide. The middle door passes behind either of the outer doors, giving access to any third of the wardrobe independently. Better for wider wardrobes and for households where simultaneous access is needed. Costs 30 to 40% more than a two-door system for equivalent coverage.

Bypass sliding: two doors that slide past each other on parallel tracks, each covering the full wardrobe opening when fully open. Better for wardrobes up to 1.8 meters wide. The simplest, lowest-cost sliding door mechanism. Common in secondary bedrooms and compact apartment wardrobes.

Soft-close mechanism: rollers with a dampened deceleration so the door slows and closes gently in the final 150mm of travel. Adds AED 200 to AED 400 to the door hardware cost and eliminates the door-slam sound. Standard on quality built-in sliding wardrobes. Often absent on ready-made units and low-cost custom builds.

**Sliding wardrobe price in Dubai 2026**

Ready-made freestanding units: AED 909 (Home Centre 2-door standard) to AED 5,251 (Karnak Home SlideMax). These prices do not include assembly, which typically adds AED 200 to AED 500 for a professional installer in Dubai.

Custom built-in sliding wardrobes: AED 800 to AED 1,200 per linear meter in melamine MDF with standard sliding track. AED 1,500 to AED 2,200 per linear meter in lacquer MDF or with mirror panels and Hettich quality track. AED 2,000 to AED 3,500 per linear meter for veneer fronts or full glass panels. A 3.5-meter wall in a Dubai apartment bedroom fitted with a custom floor-to-ceiling sliding wardrobe in melamine runs AED 7,000 to AED 10,000 including design, manufacturing, track system, and installation. The same in lacquer with mirror panels: AED 14,000 to AED 20,000. **Custom vs ready-made: the honest comparison**

After assembly, a ready-made 2-door sliding wardrobe at AED 2,000 delivered and installed typically costs AED 2,500 to AED 3,000 in total. A basic custom built-in sliding wardrobe for the same wall starts at AED 6,000 to AED 8,000. The gap is real.

What the ready-made unit does not provide: floor-to-ceiling height use, wall-to-wall width fit, moisture-resistant materials, branded track hardware, and custom internal configuration. What it does provide: faster delivery and lower upfront cost.

For renters on 1 to 2 year leases where the unit goes with the tenant, ready-made makes sense. For owners who will live in the property for 5 or more years, the custom built-in is the better financial decision: it adds material value to the apartment, uses the full wall, and will not need replacement in year 3 because the track has worn out or the carcass has warped.

**Sliding wardrobe installation in Dubai**

Custom built-in sliding wardrobes are installed in one day for a standard bedroom wall. The sequence: wall anchors for the top rail, carcass assembly in situ, panel insertion, track calibration, soft-close adjustment, LED wiring if specified. Allow one to two days for larger installations with integrated lighting and complex internal configurations.

Gated communities in Arabian Ranches, Dubai Hills Estate, and Jumeirah Golf Estates require vehicle access passes for installation vans. The contractor arranges these in advance; confirm this is included in the project scope before signing.
