Walk-In Closet Installation Dubai: Process, Timeline, and What to Expect

Walk-in closet installation in Dubai follows a process that most homeowners have not been through before. Knowing what each stage involves and how long it takes makes the project run more smoothly and avoids the surprises that cause delays. This is a straightforward account of what to expect from consultation to completed room.

**Stage 1: Design Consultation (1-2 hours on-site)**

The process starts with an on-site consultation, not a showroom visit. The consultant measures the room, photographs the walls, ceiling, and floor, records the positions of doors, windows, AC vents, light fittings, and electrical points, and discusses how you use your wardrobe and what you are trying to solve. A room plan and 3D rendering are produced after the visit, typically within 2-3 working days.

The consultation is the stage that determines whether the finished result matches what you imagined. Come prepared with reference images from Instagram or Pinterest if you have them, a rough count of how many hanging garments, folded items, shoes, and accessories you need to accommodate, and any non-negotiables about how you use the space. The more specific you are at consultation, the less revision the design will need.

**Stage 2: Design Revision and Sign-Off (3-7 days)**

Most projects go through one or two revision rounds. Common changes at this stage: adjusting hanging heights for specific garment categories, adding or removing drawer units, changing door panel designs, or modifying material and colour selections after seeing the 3D render. Once you sign off the design, the manufacturing process begins. No changes can be made after sign-off without delay, so take the time to be certain at this stage.

**Stage 3: Manufacturing (2-4 weeks)**

Walk-in closet components are manufactured to the exact dimensions of your room. This is not flat-pack furniture adjusted to fit. The manufacturing lead time for a standard Dubai residential project using lacquer-finish MDF with standard Blum hardware is 2-3 weeks. Projects with custom veneer finishes, special hardware, or imported materials extend the lead time to 3-5 weeks. During this period, you have no action required.

**Stage 4: Site Preparation (your responsibility)**

Before the installation crew arrives, the room needs to be empty and accessible. Specific requirements: all furniture removed from the room, existing shelving or wardrobes cleared out if they are being replaced, the floor and walls in the installation area clean and dry, and electrical work completed if you have added circuit routing for LED lighting. Electrical circuit routing must be done before joinery installation because channels cannot be cut through completed walls. Confirm with your electrician that the work is complete before confirming the installation date.

**Stage 5: Installation Day (1-2 days)**

A standard walk-in closet room (10-15 sqm) takes one full working day for a two-person installation team. Larger rooms or complex configurations with island units, multiple drawer banks, and full-height doors typically require two days. The crew works from the wall cladding outward: back panels first, then base units, vertical dividers, horizontal shelves, door frames, and doors last. The final stage is hardware adjustment: door alignment, drawer pull-out force calibration, and soft-close testing.

The installation day is loud. Power tools are used throughout. Plan to have the room available to the crew for the full day and not have anyone needing to work or sleep in adjacent rooms without expecting noise.

**Stage 6: Snagging and Handover**

At the end of installation, the project manager walks through every element with you: doors aligned and closing cleanly, drawers running smoothly, LED lighting functioning, shelves level, all hardware complete. Any snagging items identified at handover are addressed within 5 working days. Minor items are common and normal. They are resolved on a snagging visit, not during the installation day.

**Stage 7: After Installation**

Lacquer-finish units should not be cleaned with any product containing ammonia or solvent for the first 30 days while the finish cures fully. Mild soapy water on a soft cloth is the correct cleaning method for all lacquer surfaces throughout the life of the installation.
